Missoula, Montana
Missoula is a town that was made by the railroad. Originally settled by white men in 1860, the town grew quickly when the Northern Pacific railroad came through the valley in 1883. The University of Montana was created in 1895 to help establish Missoula as one of the major cities of Montana. Given the presence of UM, Missoula has a greater variety of cultural events and social groups than most cities of 60,000 people.
